Record a Google Meet Call and Get the Transcript

This is a Chrome extension that records tab, screen, mic and camera, so it captures a Google Meet call from your own browser instead of adding a bot to the meeting. Other participants see the same attendee list they would without any recording tool running.

Reading a transcript afterward is faster than replaying the recording, and you can ask a question about the call instead of scrubbing back and forth to find a moment.

What you get:

If you would rather have a bot join the call automatically from your calendar, ScreenApp also has a meeting bot for Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams: see the AI meeting assistant for that option.

How to Record a Google Meet Call

  1. Add the extension: Install ScreenApp from the Chrome Web Store. The icon appears in your toolbar, no separate account setup needed to start.
  2. Join and start recording: Open your Google Meet call as normal, then click the extension icon and choose what to capture: tab, screen, microphone or camera, with system audio.
  3. Read the notes: Stop the recording and the transcript and AI notes are ready in your ScreenApp library a few minutes later.

Accuracy depends on the audio: a clear microphone or a clean tab feed works well, while several people talking over each other or a poor connection leaves gaps. See how we measure accuracy.

Who Uses a Google Meet Recording Extension

Business professionals record client meetings, sales calls, and team check-ins for reference, then review decisions from the transcript instead of taking notes during the call.

Remote teams capture brainstorming sessions, planning meetings, and status updates so people in other time zones can watch or read the summary later.

Educators and teachers record lectures and parent-teacher conferences held over Google Meet, so students who missed the class can review the transcript afterward.

Students record online classes and study groups, then search the transcript instead of relistening to the whole session before an exam.

Interviewers and HR teams record job interviews and candidate presentations for fair review, and share the transcript with hiring managers instead of scheduling a repeat conversation.

Content creators capture podcast interviews and panel discussions held over Google Meet in HD, then pull quotes from the transcript for show notes or a blog post.

FAQ

Is the Google Meet recording extension free?

Yes, to start. The free plan includes 2 transcriptions of recordings up to 45 minutes each, with a transcript and AI chat. Paid plans start at $19 a month billed annually and raise the per-recording limit.

Can I record Google Meet without a bot joining?

Yes. ScreenApp's Chrome extension records from your own browser without adding a bot participant to the call. Other participants see the same attendee list as any Google Meet call.

Does the extension work on all devices?

It works on any device running the Chrome browser, including Windows, Mac, Chromebooks, and Linux. On mobile, use ScreenApp's iOS and Android apps instead of the browser extension. Recordings sync across devices when you sign in to the same account.

How do I access my Google Meet recordings?

Recordings save to your account dashboard, accessible from the extension icon. From there you can read the transcript, use AI chat, share a link, or download the recording on a paid plan.

What's the best free Google Meet recording extension?

ScreenApp records without a bot and includes a transcript and AI chat on the free plan. Otter.ai's free plan caps you at 300 minutes a month with 30 minutes per conversation, and Fireflies.ai's free plan gives 400 minutes of storage.

Does the extension capture screen shares and presentations?

Yes. It records from screen, window, browser tab, microphone and camera, with system audio, so screen shares and presentations are captured alongside the video and audio.

Can other participants tell I'm using a recording extension?

The extension shows a small recording indicator in your own browser toolbar. Google Meet's own recording notification, if you use Meet's built-in recorder as well, is separate from this. Always tell participants you are recording, since consent laws vary by location.

How accurate is the transcription?

Accuracy depends on the audio and language. See how we measure accuracy for benchmarks. A clear microphone or a clean tab feed produces fewer gaps than a call with background noise or several people talking over each other.

Can I download the recording afterward?

Downloading the original recording is a feature of paid plans (Paid plans only). On any plan you can read the transcript, the AI notes, and use AI chat on the recording in your library.
