Buddhika Jayawardhana

Co-Founder and CTO, ScreenApp

Co-founder and engineer whose background in image processing and real-time video runs through everything ScreenApp builds.

About Buddhika

Buddhika is ScreenApp's CTO and one of its co-founders, an engineer before anything else. His academic work at the University of Moratuwa was in computer vision and image processing, the OpenCV detection-and-classification kind, and he co-authored a peer-reviewed IEEE paper. It is the part of his background that shows up whenever ScreenApp has to look at a video frame and work out what is in it.

He knows the live side of video just as well. He has built WebRTC-based communication systems and worked hands-on with the plumbing behind video calls, including Jitsi, Coturn, and Kurento Media Server. That is the world of Meetrix, the open-source, Jitsi-based video conferencing company, where recording and streaming real-time video is the whole job.

Across his career he has helped build products well beyond ScreenApp: Meetrix on the video-infrastructure side, Tutopiya in online tutoring, Siplo, and Carevo, a sister product the ScreenApp team runs. The common thread is shipping software people actually use, not demos.

At ScreenApp those two threads, image processing and real-time video, come together. He works across recording, transcription, summarization, and video analysis, plus the infrastructure underneath. When a page here explains how the product detects scenes, recognizes objects, captures a meeting, or handles a particular file, that is the corner he checks for accuracy.

Frequently asked questions about Buddhika Jayawardhana

Who is Buddhika Jayawardhana?

Buddhika Jayawardhana is the co-founder and CTO of ScreenApp, and a full-stack engineer who builds AI-native video products. His background spans image processing and real-time video.

What is Buddhika's expertise in image processing?

His academic work at the University of Moratuwa was in computer vision and image processing (the OpenCV detection-and-classification kind), and he co-authored a peer-reviewed IEEE paper. At ScreenApp that maps directly to scene and object detection in the video analyzer.

What is his experience with video conferencing?

He has built WebRTC-based communication systems and worked with Jitsi, Coturn, and Kurento Media Server. He has worked on Meetrix, an open-source, Jitsi-based video conferencing platform, so real-time recording and streaming are familiar ground.

Has Buddhika published academic research?

Yes. He co-authored a peer-reviewed IEEE paper, linked from this page. His academic focus is computer vision and image processing rather than video summarization specifically.

What other companies and products has Buddhika worked on?

Alongside ScreenApp he has worked on Meetrix (open-source, Jitsi-based video conferencing), Tutopiya (online tutoring), Siplo, and Carevo, a sister product the ScreenApp team runs.

What is Meetrix?

Meetrix is an open-source video conferencing platform built on Jitsi. Buddhika has worked on its video-infrastructure side, the same real-time video skills ScreenApp uses for recording and meetings.

What is Tutopiya?

Tutopiya is an online tutoring platform, one of the products Buddhika has worked on outside ScreenApp.

How does Buddhika’s background apply to ScreenApp?

Image processing feeds ScreenApp’s scene and object detection, and his real-time video and WebRTC experience feeds recording, screen capture, and meeting capture. Both run through the product he co-founded.

What does Buddhika do at ScreenApp?

As co-founder and CTO he works across recording, transcription, summarization, video analysis, and the product infrastructure.

Where did Buddhika study?

He studied Engineering at the University of Moratuwa.

What ScreenApp content does Buddhika review?

He reviews pages for technical accuracy on video, AI, and product-engineering topics.

How can I verify Buddhika is a real engineer?

His LinkedIn, GitHub, GitLab, Crunchbase, and IEEE publication are all linked from this page.
