Happy Scribe vs ScreenApp: Pricing and Upload Test

What each plan includes, what happened in our upload test, and what remains unverified.

Happy Scribe vs ScreenApp

Happy Scribe offers transcript, subtitle and human-service workflows. ScreenApp keeps the recording, transcript and questions together. Both completed our upload pilot; it establishes no accuracy or speed winner.

Happy Scribe vs ScreenApp

Consider Happy Scribe for transcript editing, subtitles, translation or optional human proofreading. Its editor showed the end of our uploaded meeting, and its AI chat answered both test prompts. Its Basic plan has a lower listed annual-billing price than ScreenApp Pro, although the plans count different kinds of usage.

Consider ScreenApp if you work with the recording as well as its transcript. Our Pro account accepted the same meeting, displayed the transcript in a recording panel and answered the same questions in a conversation. ScreenApp also publishes screen, webcam and microphone recording options.

Both completed this upload workflow. This pilot does not establish which is faster or more accurate.

Strengths and Trade-offs

Happy Scribe

  • The editor showed timestamps, speaker labels and the meeting’s closing passage. Its AI chat answered the requested summary and action-item questions.
  • Published plans include transcription, subtitles, translation, meeting recording and a separate paid human service. Happy Scribe is no longer the upload-only product described by older versions of this page.
  • Free includes 10 minutes of AI transcription, subtitling and translation to try. Basic and Pro add recurring minute allowances. AI Chat file counts are separate.
  • Its AI answer put a volunteered VS Code follow-up under proposed work. That classification remains unverified against the audio.

ScreenApp

  • The Pro account kept the uploaded recording, transcript and prompted answers in one conversation. Its transcript panel reached the end of the file.
  • Plans count uploads, transcriptions and AI chats separately. Free has trial quantities; Pro has monthly quotas.
  • Its action answer called the VS Code follow-up assigned to “Developer.” The displayed transcript placed the offer at 6:32, while the answer cited 6:26. The owner and timestamp need audio review.
  • We did not test live capture in either product, so the upload does not settle which recording workflow is better for a team.

Happy Scribe’s paid plans list extra AI minutes at $0.20/minute. ScreenApp Pro also lists a $30 monthly-billing price. Happy Scribe meters uploaded media by minutes; ScreenApp publishes separate counts for uploads, transcripts and chats. A subscription price alone does not tell you which will cost less for your workload.

Features by Plan

Happy Scribe lists 45 minutes per meeting recording on Free and 90 on Basic. Pro and Business list no per-recording duration cap. Those are meeting recording limits, not the duration we tested for every upload type. The Free AI transcription trial is a separate allowance. ScreenApp’s recording limits are on its pricing page.

For language work, Happy Scribe’s pricing page says AI speech-to-text for 60+ languages and dialects in its Free-plan description, while its detailed comparison table uses a broader count. We did not test language coverage, subtitles or translation. Check your required language and output on the current plan page rather than treating either number as a quality score.

Happy Scribe also documents cloud imports, collaborative editing and optional human proofreading. This pilot used a local MP4 and inspected the transcript editor. It did not test those other workflows. ScreenApp’s recording options and transcript editing were likewise not assessed beyond the uploaded file.

Test Results

We selected the same 480.04-second, 12,341,615-byte English MP4 in both accounts. Each produced a transcript with the final passage accessible. Happy Scribe initially exposed only the first few minutes in the loaded editor text; scrolling loaded the rest. That initial view was not a transcript-length cap.

Both returned the requested summary headings: Discussion, Agreed Decisions and Unresolved Proposals. Their action answers diverged on a concrete point. Near the end of the meeting, someone offers to add VS Code integrations to the announcement list. Happy Scribe said no action was explicitly assigned and listed the offer as proposed work by Speaker 1. ScreenApp labelled it an assigned task for “Developer” and cited 6:26, although its visible transcript shows the offer at 6:32. We have preserved both responses without treating either classification as ground truth.

The two answer screenshots above show the cropped product responses. They do not measure accuracy. The source video, participant previews and raw account recordings have not been placed on this page.

Recording, Exports and Sharing

Happy Scribe’s editor offered an export dialog and reported a Word file ready. ScreenApp offered TXT, Word, PDF, VTT and SRT transcript downloads. We attempted Word exports but could not inspect either file because access to the local Downloads folder was denied. File contents and format eligibility on each plan are unverified by this test. Happy Scribe’s pricing page gives conflicting descriptions of Free export formats, so we do not infer eligibility from the dialog alone.

Happy Scribe’s share dialog showed workspace access and invitation controls. ScreenApp displayed a read-only conversation link and an option to include the recording. We inspected these controls without inviting anyone or testing another person’s access. Check an item’s access settings before sharing sensitive material.

Privacy and Security

This test uploaded the meeting to both web services. It does not establish retention periods, deletion behavior or suitability for regulated data. Review Happy Scribe’s privacy policy and ScreenApp security for your requirements. The public images exclude account details and participant video; original captures remain in the private evidence folder.

How We Tested

  • Date and environment: 29 September 2026, Chrome incognito on macOS in Sri Lanka. The same workstation and connection were used sequentially; network quality was not measured.
  • Input and accounts: the same English MP4 bytes in a Happy Scribe account with an observed 10-minute trial allowance and ScreenApp Pro. Happy Scribe’s exact plan label was not verified. ScreenApp had processed this source in earlier tests, so caching is unknown.
  • Procedure: one upload per tool. Happy Scribe used machine-generated transcription with English (US), no translation, glossary or style guide. ScreenApp used its default upload settings. We checked each transcript through its closing passage and submitted identical summary and action-item prompts.
  • Evidence: the dated internal test record contains source hashes, UI text, product-window recordings and screenshots. Raw account captures stay private; the two answer crops shown here were reviewed separately.
Read the Identical Prompts

Summary: Summarize this meeting in no more than 180 words. Use headings Discussion, Agreed Decisions, and Unresolved Proposals. Include only information supported by the transcript. Do not invent decisions, owners or deadlines.

Action items: List only explicitly assigned action items from this meeting. For each, give the task, owner, deadline including timezone if stated, and supporting timestamp. Write "Not stated" for missing details. Separately list proposed or unassigned work. Do not invent commitments.

What This Test Does Not Establish

There is no human-corrected reference transcript, word error rate, verified processing-time comparison or repeat-run reliability estimate. Different account allowances, a previously used source and unknown internal settings prevent a controlled quality comparison. We did not test live meeting capture, subtitles, translation, integrations, human proofreading or whether downloaded exports opened correctly. The AI responses still need checking against the audio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Happy Scribe transcribe an uploaded video without a live meeting?

Yes. Our MP4 upload produced a transcript without a live meeting. The published plans also include a meeting notetaker, which we did not test.

Does Happy Scribe show the whole uploaded transcript?

In this account, the closing passage became available after scrolling the editor. The initial loaded view stopped earlier because the editor loads text as you move through it; that was not evidence of a transcript cap.

Which plan costs less?

Happy Scribe Basic has a lower listed annual-billing monthly equivalent than ScreenApp Pro. Happy Scribe measures included AI media minutes and file analyses, while ScreenApp counts uploads, transcriptions and AI chats. Compare those allowances with your own volume.

Can Happy Scribe record meetings?

Its current pricing page lists meeting recording and support for Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. We tested only an uploaded file, so we did not assess meeting capture or the notetaker.

Which transcription is more accurate or faster?

This pilot establishes neither. Both showed the closing passage, but no human audio reference or reliable matched timing exists. Their different action-item answers are a reason to check the source, not a measured accuracy result.
