Record Your Opera Screen in the Browser, No Extension
Opera does not have a built-in screen recorder. ScreenApp offers a recorder that runs directly in the browser using the same screen-capture technology as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, with nothing to install first. Opera is a Chromium browser, so the Chrome extension that records tab, screen, mic and camera also installs and works in Opera: ScreenApp builds it for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and other Chromium browsers.
A browser tool built on the screen-capture API is what actually records Opera.
What you get:
- Capture screen, window, browser tab, microphone and camera, with system audio
- no watermark on any recording or export
- Free plan: 2 transcriptions of recordings up to 45 minutes each, with AI chat on it
- Download the finished recording as MP4, or team workspaces and share links
- trim recordings before you share
- Pause and resume while recording
How to Screen Record on Opera
- Open the recorder in Opera: Go to the ScreenApp recorder in your Opera browser. You don't need to sign up to start.
- Pick what to capture: Choose your full screen, a single window, or a browser tab, then add microphone audio, system sound, or both.
- Stop and save: Stop the recording when you are done. Download it as MP4, or generate a link so someone else can watch it without an account.
Recording quality depends on your computer and connection more than on the browser you use. See how we measure accuracy if you plan to turn the recording into a transcript afterward, or try the browser screen recorder if you are not on Opera specifically.

- vs Loom: Loom’s own Opera page tells you to open the Loom app to start recording, and its free plan caps videos at 5 minutes with a 25-video library. ScreenApp’s recorder runs on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge with no separate app to open.
- vs Screencastify: Screencastify’s free plan limits you to 30 minutes per video and 10 videos, with Castify watermark on free recordings. Paid removes the watermark at $10 a month annual.
- vs OBS Studio: OBS is Free and open source, but it is a desktop application you download and configure with scenes and sources, not a browser-based recorder you can open in a tab.
Who Uses an Opera Screen Recorder
Opera GX gamers and streamers capture gameplay and browser sessions to share clips or walkthroughs, without adding a capture app on top of the games they are already running.
Software developers and testers reproduce a bug in Opera, record the console and the steps that trigger it, and send the video to a teammate instead of writing it up.
Content creators and educators record tutorials and course material from inside Opera, then share a link or download the file for editing elsewhere.
Business professionals record product demos and client walkthroughs from their browser and send a link that opens without the other person needing an account.
Remote teams record a quick update on a shared document or dashboard open in Opera, so a colleague in another time zone can watch it later.
