Sonix vs ScreenApp

Consider Sonix for occasional paid transcription or a transcript-focused editing workflow. Its pay-as-you-go option avoids a subscription. Subscription tiers add AI allowances and progressively more team controls. Our trial uploads completed, but an account survey obstructed the record controls and prevented the planned AI comparison.

Consider ScreenApp for recording and asking questions about saved media. Its Pro account completed the same uploads and returned the requested summary and action-item answers. Its recording and library tools are relevant if your work extends beyond producing a transcript.

The distinction is workflow and billing. This pilot does not show that either tool is faster or more accurate.

Strengths and Trade-offs

Sonix

  • Pay-as-you-go suits intermittent work without recurring billing.
  • Transcript editing, subtitles and export options are documented. Subscription tiers add team and automation controls.
  • AI Workspace is absent from pay-as-you-go. Included transcription hours and AI hours are separate allowances.
  • Our completed uploads did not lead to a finished AI test: the onboarding survey needed account details. That is a limitation of this session, not proof that Sonix lacks AI summaries.

ScreenApp

  • The tested Pro account combined an uploaded recording, transcript and prompted answers in the same conversation.
  • Device recording and library questions support work that starts before or continues after transcription.
  • Its Free file and transcription allowances are limited trial quantities. Pro also has separate transcription and AI quotas.
  • Speaker labels varied between repeated uploads. The conversation’s scope control read “All recordings”; the response cited our test file, but single-file retrieval isolation was not independently verified.

Price Comparison

USD web prices checked 28 September 2026 from Sri Lanka. Annual totals below are paid yearly. Sonix bills media hours; ScreenApp’s allowances count transcriptions, uploads and AI turns. A lower subscription price alone does not establish the cheaper option for your workload.

Sonix translation draws on transcription hours; AI usage measures the duration of recordings analyzed. Annual Sonix allowances are available for the year upfront. ScreenApp’s Free uploads and transcriptions do not renew monthly; its Free AI allowance does. See Sonix allowance rules and ScreenApp plan limits.

For a single short project, compare Sonix’s media-hour charge with the subscription you would actually need. For frequent work, check how many recordings need transcription and how often you will ask follow-up questions. These are different units, so there is no universal cost winner.

Plan attribution follows Sonix’s detailed plan comparison. ScreenApp capabilities follow its unified product store and the linked recording, automation, video analysis and pricing pages. Export contents, integrations, team permissions and live recording were not exercised here.

Recording, Translation and Sharing

Sonix’s upload workflow works with existing audio or video; our test did not require a live meeting. Its enterprise live-transcription page has an early-access request. Confirm eligibility before treating it as a replacement for a recorder on a self-serve plan. ScreenApp offers device recording and a meeting bot, but their behavior is outside this upload test.

Sonix documents translation and caption workflows. ScreenApp offers recording-based AI tools, but we did not compare translated transcripts or subtitle exports. Language coverage lists do not establish quality in a particular language. The source was English; no Sinhala or multilingual evaluation was performed.

Sharing a transcript link and downloading media are different tasks. Sonix documents shared links and an embeddable player on eligible plans. ScreenApp supports sharing recordings. Neither shared-link permissions nor the contents of an exported file were tested, so check access using a separate recipient account before distributing a sensitive recording.

Test Results

On 28 September 2026, each product received the same 480.04-second English MP4 in 3 upload attempts. All completed. Transcript text reached the closing passage in each saved result; that establishes completion, not correctness.

What the AI Result Shows

ScreenApp returned the two requested outputs on the first upload. The action response separated proposed work from its assigned task and cited the selected file. Neither the assignment nor the speaker identity has been checked against a human-corrected reference.

A later ScreenApp upload used “Product Lead” where the first used numbered speaker labels. We did not establish which labeling was correct. Sonix’s displayed transcription confidence is also a vendor estimate, not an independent accuracy measurement.

The Sonix onboarding survey prevented the planned prompt interaction. We have no matching summary or action-item answer to score. This missing result must not be read as a ScreenApp quality win.

Privacy and Security

Sonix states that it does not train its systems on customer data and stores data in AWS in the USA. Its security page describes encryption, access controls and deletion. Enterprise contractual terms and healthcare arrangements need separate confirmation. These are vendor statements, not findings from a security audit. Sonix security and privacy.

ScreenApp’s product store states that customer content is not used to train AI models and describes SOC 2 Type 2 auditing. HIPAA compliance and a BAA are not available. Review ScreenApp security, its privacy policy and Trust Center for the applicable terms. We did not test deletion, retention enforcement or access controls in either product.

How We Tested

  • Date and environment: 28 September 2026, Chrome incognito on macOS, from Sri Lanka. Same workstation and source file; connection performance was not measured.
  • Accounts: Sonix Trial and ScreenApp Pro. Plans and internal model settings were not matched.
  • Input: an English product-marketing meeting MP4, 480.04 seconds and 12,341,615 bytes. The same bytes were renamed for each repeat. ScreenApp had processed this source previously; caching is unknown.
  • Order: Sonix first for the first and last pairs, ScreenApp first for the middle pair. A ten-minute timeout was declared. Transcript text reaching the closing passage was the completion observation; Sonix’s survey still obscured controls.
  • Collection: assisted browser interaction, text captures, screenshots and recordings limited to the designated incognito product window. The first Sonix recording was interrupted and retained with its error log. No recording duration is presented as a processing time.
  • Prompts: matching prompts were planned for the first pair only. Both were submitted to ScreenApp; Sonix’s survey prevented its corresponding submissions.
Read the Planned Prompts

Summary: Summarize this meeting in no more than 180 words. Use headings Discussion, Agreed Decisions, and Unresolved Proposals. Include only information supported by the transcript. Do not invent decisions, owners or deadlines.

Action items: List only explicitly assigned action items from this meeting. For each, give the task, owner, deadline including timezone if stated, and supporting timestamp. Write "Not stated" for missing details. Separately list proposed or unassigned work. Do not invent commitments.

What Remains Unverified

There is no human-corrected reference transcript, word error rate, matched AI comparison or reliable speed benchmark. Source reuse, unequal plans and uncertain retrieval scope limit generalization. We did not test noisy audio, long files, other languages, live meetings, export contents, integrations or team controls. The supplied source and raw account captures are not publicly redistributed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Sonix Transcribe an Uploaded Video?

Yes. The supplied MP4 completed in all 3 trial uploads. A live meeting was not required. Normal transcript controls were obstructed by an onboarding survey in this account.

Does Sonix Have a Free Plan?

Sonix lists a 30-minute trial, followed by pay-as-you-go or a subscription. ScreenApp has a Free plan with limited trial uploads and transcriptions plus a monthly AI allowance. See the usage table above.

Which Tool Is Cheaper?

It depends on media hours, file count and AI usage. Sonix offers pay-as-you-go without a subscription; ScreenApp uses separate file and AI allowances. Compare the linked prices and billing periods against your actual workload.

Does Sonix Support AI Summaries?

Its published AI Workspace includes summaries and custom prompts on subscription plans. Our account survey blocked that part of the pilot, so we did not evaluate the output against ScreenApp.

Which Tool Is More Accurate or Faster?

This test establishes neither. Repeated completion does not measure accuracy, and an interrupted capture plus unmatched conditions prevents a reliable speed comparison.

Can Sonix Replace a Live Recorder?

Sonix advertises enterprise real-time transcription with an early-access request. We did not verify availability or live capture. ScreenApp has recording options, but they were also outside this test.
