Transcribe a Twitch VOD or Stream
Paste a public Twitch VOD link into ScreenApp and it imports the video directly. ScreenApp’s link importer covers YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and most other public video links (Twitch, Loom, Dropbox, Google Drive, Pinterest, X, Threads, Douyin, Kuaishou, Bilibili) through a generic importer. A private, subscriber-only, or otherwise login-gated VOD will not import; for those, download the video from Twitch, or record it playing in a browser tab with a screen recorder, then upload that file instead (2 GB max file size). Twitch lets creators download their own VODs; see Twitch’s help article on downloading VODs for the current steps.
Once the video is in, ScreenApp extracts the audio, converts speech to text, labels each speaker, and adds timestamps. There is no live captioning of a stream while it is still airing; this works on a VOD or a finished recording.
What you get once the file is uploaded:
- A transcript with speaker identification and timestamps, in 99 languages
- AI chat with any recording, so you can ask what happened at a point in the stream instead of scrubbing through the video
- AI notes: action items with an owner and deadline, and decisions listed separately
- Chapters that split a long VOD by topic: chapters with timestamps
- Export as PDF, DOCX, TXT, SRT and VTT
- Free plan: one recording of up to 45 minutes, with AI chat on it
How to Transcribe a Twitch Stream
- Paste the VOD link: Copy the Twitch VOD URL and paste it into ScreenApp. Public VODs import automatically. If the VOD is private or subscriber-only, download it from Twitch instead (Twitch lets creators download VODs they own; see Twitch’s download guide), or open it in a browser tab and record the playback, capturing screen, window, browser tab, microphone and camera, with system audio.
- Or upload the file: If you downloaded or recorded a file instead of pasting a link, drag it onto the upload area. ScreenApp accepts MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV, WMV, and FLV, up to 2 GB. A multi-hour VOD past that size needs trimming first.
- Read and export: The transcript, with speaker labels and timestamps, is ready a few minutes later. Edit it in the built-in editor and export as PDF, DOCX, TXT, SRT and VTT.
Overlapping audio from gameplay, alerts, and voice chat affects accuracy. A dedicated microphone with noise suppression transcribes more cleanly than a mixed stream feed. See how we measure accuracy. The Twitch AI notetaker covers the same upload-then-transcribe flow if you also want AI notes alongside the transcript.

- vs VocaScript: VocaScript lets you paste a Twitch VOD or clip URL directly to transcribe it, the same paste-a-link path ScreenApp offers for public VODs. Its free tier is limited to 3 a day as a guest, 15 a day signed in (up to 120 minutes a month), and free exports are TXT only. ScreenApp adds speaker labels, AI notes, and AI chat that VocaScript’s page does not state it has.
- vs transcript.you: transcript.you can drop up to 50 Twitch VOD or clip URLs into a textarea to transcribe them, in batches, exporting as TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT. Its page does not state a free plan limit or speaker labels. ScreenApp’s free plan is a stated one recording of up to 45 minutes with AI chat included.
- vs SubGrab: SubGrab lets you paste a Twitch VOD or clip URL directly to transcribe it, exporting as TXT, SRT, VTT. Its page does not state pricing, a free plan limit, or speaker labels. ScreenApp’s free plan and pricing are both public on the pricing page.
Who Transcribes Twitch Streams
Streamers turn their own VODs into a searchable record, so they can pull quotes for a channel description or check what was said during a specific segment without rewatching hours of footage.
Clip and highlight editors search a stream’s transcript for the moment worth cutting, then jump straight to that timestamp instead of scrubbing through a multi-hour recording.
Content creators repurposing streams turn a VOD into a blog post, a Twitter thread, or a YouTube video description by starting from the written transcript instead of retyping from memory.
Esports and gaming analysts search a match VOD’s transcript for the moment a call was made, and cite the timestamp when writing up the review.
Moderation and compliance teams review what was said during a stream, for a sponsorship check or a dispute, with a searchable transcript instead of rewatching the entire broadcast.
FAQ
Can I paste a Twitch link into ScreenApp?
Yes, for a public VOD. ScreenApp’s link importer covers YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and most other public video links (Twitch, Loom, Dropbox, Google Drive, Pinterest, X, Threads, Douyin, Kuaishou, Bilibili) through a generic importer. A private or subscriber-only VOD will not import; download it from Twitch, or record it playing in a browser tab, then upload that file instead.
How do I download a Twitch VOD?
Twitch lets creators download VODs they own from their own channel. Twitch’s help article on downloading VODs covers the current steps. If a VOD isn’t yours or downloading isn’t available, record the playback in a browser tab instead.
Can I transcribe a live stream while it’s airing?
No. ScreenApp does not caption a live Twitch stream in real time. Once the stream ends and becomes a VOD, or once you have a recording of it, upload that file for a transcript.
What if the VOD is too large to upload?
The upload limit is 2 GB. A long, high-resolution VOD past that size needs trimming into shorter segments before upload.
Does it handle game audio and chat sound effects?
The AI transcribes the speech track on the file you upload. Heavy overlapping game audio, alerts, and chat sound effects reduce accuracy compared to a clear commentary track. See how we measure accuracy.
What export formats are available?
You can export as PDF, DOCX, TXT, SRT and VTT. Every export keeps the timestamps and speaker labels.
Can I search the transcript for a specific moment?
Yes. Once the text is generated, search the transcript for a word or phrase, or use the AI chat to ask a question and get pointed to the moment in the recording.
Is there a free plan for Twitch transcription?
Yes. See the pricing page for the current free plan, which includes one recording of up to 45 minutes with AI chat on it.
Is my uploaded VOD private?
Uploads are encrypted in transit and stored with AES-256, on SOC 2 Type 2 infrastructure. Recordings are not used to train AI models. Security controls are published on the trust center.
