Language coverage
Otter’s pricing page lists 6 transcription languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese (checked 2026-09-12). ScreenApp transcribes 100+ languages, and the language is detected automatically per file. Speaker diarization is available on 25 of ScreenApp’s languages; the rest transcribe without speaker separation.
If your recordings are in a language outside Otter’s six, that is the clearest reason to look elsewhere.
Recording without a connection
Otter stores audio locally if the connection drops, with no live transcript (Otter help centre, checked 2026-09-12).
ScreenApp records offline on iOS and Android and uploads when the connection returns.
What each app records on an iPhone
Otter’s iOS app records audio. ScreenApp’s iOS app is a voice and audio recorder with transcription. Neither records your iPhone screen. If you need a screen recording, ScreenApp captures screen, window, browser tab, microphone and camera, with system audio, but only from its Mac and Windows apps or its Chrome extension that records tab, screen, mic and camera. Not from the phone.
On a desktop recording, AI reads video frames, not just the audio, so a demo or a slide deck is part of what the AI reads rather than only the audio track.
After the recording
ScreenApp gives you speaker identification, and you can click a speaker label to rename it, match it to a team member, or reassign a single segment. It produces action items with an owner and deadline, and decisions listed separately, plus chapters with timestamps. There are AI templates and documents (21 built in), AI chat with any recording, and one AI chat that searches and answers from every recording in your library, or a single folder. You can also search across recordings by name or transcript.

Accuracy
ScreenApp’s accuracy page reports 95.8% on English studio audio, from ScreenApp’s April 2026 test, run before xAI Grok Speech-to-Text became the default transcription provider. Conference audio and field recordings score lower. This is ScreenApp’s own testing, not a third-party benchmark, and no head-to-head test against another tool has been run for this page. Note that overlapping speech can confuse the diarization system.

Security
