SuperWhisper vs ScreenApp
SuperWhisper is a dictation app for macOS. ScreenApp has dictation too, alongside recording, transcription and AI notes. This page covers what ScreenApp’s dictation does, so you can judge the overlap yourself. For SuperWhisper’s current pricing, model list and platform support, check superwhisper.com directly; the figures move often enough that we do not restate them here.
What ScreenApp’s dictation does
ScreenApp has system-wide dictation on Mac and Windows. You hold a hotkey to dictate, then release it and the transcript lands in whatever app has focus. The hotkey can be Left Option, Right Option, Right Alt, Right Ctrl, Scroll Lock, or Fn/Globe on an Apple keyboard.
There are three modes: Fast returns the transcript exactly as spoken; Best removes filler words and fixes punctuation with an AI pass; Answer treats what you said as a question and inserts the AI's answer instead.
You can add your own list of names, jargon and terms and transcription applies them. Dictation is included on every plan, with no separate word limit.
What else is in the same account
Dictation is one part of ScreenApp rather than a standalone app. The same account also has:
- screen, window, browser tab, microphone and camera, with system audio
- AI chat with any recording
- AI templates and documents, 21 of them built in
- Exports in PDF, DOCX, TXT, SRT and VTT
- meeting bot for Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams
- Mac and Windows apps and iOS and Android apps
If you only want a dictation hotkey and nothing else, a single-purpose dictation app is the simpler buy.
