What ScreenApp’s dictation does
ScreenApp has system-wide dictation on Mac and Windows. You hold a hotkey to dictate, then release it and the transcript lands in whatever app has focus, so the text lands in your editor, your email client or your chat window without a copy and paste step. The hotkey can be Left Option, Right Option, Right Alt, Right Ctrl, Scroll Lock, or Fn/Globe on an Apple keyboard.
There are three modes: Fast returns the transcript exactly as spoken; Best removes filler words and fixes punctuation with an AI pass; Answer treats what you said as a question and inserts the AI's answer instead.
You can add your own list of names, jargon and terms and transcription applies them, which matters for names, product codes and jargon. Dictation is included on every plan, with no separate word limit.
Transcription covers 100+ languages and the language is detected automatically per file. ScreenApp’s accuracy page reports 95.8% on English studio audio, from ScreenApp’s April 2026 test, run before xAI Grok Speech-to-Text became the default transcription provider. Conference audio and field recordings score lower. This is ScreenApp’s own testing, not a third-party benchmark, and no head-to-head test against another tool has been run for this page.

ScreenApp holds SOC 2 Type 2 and encrypts data with AES-256. Recordings and content are not used to train AI models.
