How to Setup ScreenApp MCP Server

Complete guide to connecting ScreenApp to AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Access your video transcripts, summaries, and insights directly from your AI chat interface.

Unlock the full potential of your video library by connecting ScreenApp directly to your favorite AI assistants. With the Model Context Protocol (MCP), you can grant Claude and ChatGPT secure access to your transcripts, summaries, and video metadata to answer complex questions and automate workflows.

This guide walks you through the complete setup process, from generating your API key to asking your first question.

What is ScreenApp MCP?

  • Direct AI Access - Query your entire video library from Claude or ChatGPT without switching tabs. Your AI assistant becomes a super-analyst for all your recorded content.
  • Secure and Private - The MCP server only reads the specific data required to answer your prompt. Your full video library is not used to train public AI models.
  • Natural Language Queries - No code required. Ask questions like “What were the action items from my last marketing meeting?” and get instant answers from your transcripts.
  • Cross-Video Analysis - Find patterns across multiple videos, identify recurring themes, and extract insights from weeks or months of recorded meetings.

What Can You Do with ScreenApp MCP?

Once connected, your AI assistant becomes a powerful tool for video content analysis. Here are some example queries:

  • “Based on my marketing meetings last month, what were the main blockers?” - Analyze trends across multiple videos
  • “Find the video where we discussed the Q3 roadmap and summarize the action items.” - Search and extract specific information
  • “Draft a follow-up email based on the transcript of the ‘Client Kickoff’ call.” - Generate content from video transcripts
  • “Review my last 5 sales calls. What is the most common customer objection?” - Identify patterns and insights
  • “Who attended the ‘All Hands’ meeting on Tuesday?” - Check metadata and participants

"Pull the transcript from my video titled 'Team Standup - Monday'"

If the AI returns relevant results from your ScreenApp library, the connection is working correctly!

Frequently Asked Questions

The AI says "I don't have access to that." What should I do?

This usually means the AI isn't recognizing the MCP tool. Try being more explicit in your prompt:

  • Instead of: "What did we discuss in the meeting?"
  • Try: "Use the ScreenApp tool to search for videos about [topic]"

You can also verify the connection by checking for the plug icon (Claude) or ensuring ScreenApp is toggled on in the Tools menu (ChatGPT).

The connection failed. How do I troubleshoot?

For Claude Desktop:

  • Verify the Server URL is correct: https://api.screenapp.io/v2/mcp/sse
  • Ensure OAuth 2.0 is selected as the authentication method
  • Check that the MCP integration is enabled in ScreenApp Dashboard → Settings → Integrations

For Both Platforms:

  • Verify your ScreenApp account has MCP access enabled
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting the MCP server
  • Completely restart the AI assistant application
Is my video data private and secure?

Yes, absolutely. The MCP server only reads the specific data required to answer your prompt. Your full video library is not shared with or used to train public AI models. All data transmission is encrypted, and you can revoke access at any time from your ScreenApp dashboard under API → Active Connections.

Can I use this with multiple AI assistants at the same time?

Yes! You can set up the MCP connection for both Claude and ChatGPT simultaneously. Each assistant will have independent access to your ScreenApp library. Just follow the setup instructions for each platform separately.

What ScreenApp plan do I need for MCP access?

MCP integration is available on all ScreenApp paid plans (Pro, Team, and Enterprise). Free plan users can upgrade to access the API and MCP features. Visit your pricing page to compare plans.

Can I limit which videos the AI can access?

Yes. In your ScreenApp dashboard, navigate to Settings → API → MCP Permissions. You can restrict access by workspace, folder, or specific video tags. This is useful for teams that want to limit sensitive content exposure.

Does this work with the mobile versions of Claude or ChatGPT?

ChatGPT: Yes, if you've set up the connector in your workspace, it will be available on mobile. Claude: Currently, MCP is only supported in the desktop app, not the mobile app or web version.
