Fathom review: pricing, recording options and privacy

This is a product overview based on Fathom’s public pages and a browser review on September 15, 2026. ScreenApp publishes this article and is a competing product. We did not record a meeting or measure transcription quality in Fathom.
What the browser review checked
An automated browser review opened the Fathom sign-in page, switched the pricing page between annual and monthly billing, expanded the trust center’s AI-training explanation, and searched the public integration directory for Slack. The pricing toggle changed the displayed prices, and the directory search returned matching cards.
No authenticated Fathom workspace was available. No account was created, integration connected, or recording processed. These observations establish what the public interface displayed, not whether a meeting workflow works end to end. Earlier accuracy percentages, participant statistics and unattributed user quotes were removed because no reproducible record supported them.
Recording options and the free plan
Fathom’s pricing page lists a free individual plan with unlimited recordings and transcriptions. It also describes bot-free capture as a Mac beta. A blanket statement that Fathom always joins as a visible bot is therefore inaccurate. Check the operating-system requirements and the capture option available to your account before a meeting. A free plan does not mean every advanced workflow is included. Compare the plan table for the AI and team controls you need. We did not test duration limits, language coverage, capture reliability or summary generation in this review.

The public pricing interface displayed these prices in dollars per user per month. Annual prices are monthly equivalents billed annually, not a month-to-month commitment.

Premium appeared in pricing-page text, while the team tiers appeared in the comparison cards. These were displayed prices, not a completed purchase. Check the current plan, billing period, minimum seats and checkout terms before buying. Fathom pricing.
Integrations: documented versus tested
Fathom’s public directory lists meeting and business services including Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Salesforce and HubSpot. Its Slack page describes automatic sharing of summaries, action items and meeting clips. The browser review tested the public directory search only. It did not connect Slack or verify that a summary reached a channel. Integration directory, Slack documentation.
For an evaluation, check the exact plan requirement, destination permissions and field mapping for your workflow. A listing in a directory is not evidence that your account is configured or that delivery has succeeded.
Privacy and AI training
Fathom’s trust center distinguishes its AI subprocessors from its own model development. It says AI subprocessors cannot train on customer data. It separately describes using de-identified customer data to improve Fathom’s proprietary models, with an opt-out. Saying that no customer data is ever used for training would omit that distinction. The trust center lists SOC 2 Type II and references HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA. The underlying SOC 2 report requires access; we did not examine it or independently assess compliance. Review the current data-use policy and account controls for your organization’s requirements. Do not infer end-to-end encryption from a general security statement. Fathom trust center.
How to compare Fathom with ScreenApp
Compare the workflow you actually need: capturing a call, working from an existing recording, sharing a summary, or moving information into another service. Check ScreenApp plans alongside Fathom’s current plan table. For transcription claims, use the method and limitations on ScreenApp’s accuracy page.
This review does not rank either product’s accuracy or speed. A fair comparison needs the same authorized audio sample, a reference transcript, saved outputs, product settings and a documented scoring method. Listen for names, numbers, overlapping speech and speaker assignment errors. Check action items against the recording before sending them to others.
FAQ
Is Fathom always a meeting bot?
No. Its public pricing page documents bot-free capture as a Mac beta. Availability and setup still need checking for the device and account you will use.
Did ScreenApp test Fathom's transcription accuracy?
Not in this review. The browser checks covered public pricing, documentation and directory navigation. They produced no transcript or accuracy score.
Does Fathom use customer data to train AI?
Its trust center distinguishes a prohibition on AI-subprocessor training from Fathom's own de-identified-data model improvement and opt-out. Read both parts of the policy rather than relying on a blanket yes or no.
How can I report an error in this article?
